ITINERARY
Day 1 – Depart Perth Australia and fly overnight to Johannesburg South Africa (Your Qualified OzAfrica Safari guide will accompany you every step of the way.)
Day 2 – Continue onto Cape Town arriving mid morning. Travel to your accommodation located on the outskirts of South Africa’s Mother City. Depending on the conditions you could be whisked off to Table Mountain to enjoy your introductory tour with a view of Table Bay, wine lands and the distant mountains of the Hottentots Holland.
Day 3 – After a relaxed breakfast travel down the length of the cape peninsula to Cape Point. En route you will pass through historic villages and towns such as Muizenburg and Simons Town. Muizenburg was home to Cecil Rhodes in his final years and Simons Town is still the main Navy base of South Africa which played an important role in the history of the Cape changing hands between England and the Dutch and back.
Cape Point National Park hosts several species of wildlife such as zebra, ostrich, blessbok and eland. The spot traditionally marks the famous cape of storms with the lighthouse and the meeting of the Indian and Atlantic oceans. Pay a visit to Constantia where the South African wine industry gained a foot hold and wonder through the historic homestead and gardens.
Day 4 – Spend the day travelling through the historic towns of Paarl, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch. You will have the opportunity to partake in wine and cheese tastings as well as visit interesting and varied historical points. Have lunch under the famous oaks of Stellenbosch and wonder through period shops before returning to Cape Town.
Day 5 – Today travel east to the town of Grabou where we will make a stop at orphanage located within a squatter camp. OzAfrica makes a point of supporting causes such as this. You will have the opportunity to meet with the staff and children as well as drop off supplies purchased from the OzAfrica aid fund.
Make a lunch stop en route to Betty’s Bay where you will visit an African Penguin colony. Travel along the awe-inspiring Clarence drive hugging the east coast of False Bay. Spectacular scenery and ocean views in the offing.
Day 6 – Visit the Victoria and Alfred waterfront for some retail therapy. Spend the morning browsing the shops and stalls and while you are here you have the opportunity to visit Robben Island or the aquarium. Return to accommodation in the early afternoon giving you time to pack for the next leg of your South African Safari.
Day 7 – Bid Cape Town farewell and board your flight to Nelspruit located in the North East of South Africa. Overnight in Nelspruit.
Days 8 – 11 Travel to the world famous Kruger National Park and spend the next three days exploring one of the iconic wildlife preserved in Africa. This well managed and serviced national park is home to all of the big five as well as large numbers of other African fauna. The park spans several bio diverse regions and so you will transit through forest, open savannah into the harsh Mopani scrublands. Each bringing with it unique vegetation and animals.
Your days will be spent traversing the park looking for game and enjoying the wilderness of Africa, looking for that perfect photograph.
Day 12 – Depart the park around midday and travel to the town of Hoedspruit and visit a rehabilitation centre for endangered wildlife. Get up close and personal with species that are being rehabilitated for reintroduction to the wild.
Day 13 – Travel up through the Drakensburg and make stops at the third largest canyon in the world, the Blyde River Canyon and Gods Window where panoramic views are the order of the day. After lunch at the town of Graskop travel up through the high veldt to Johannesburg. You will arrive in the late afternoon at the airport to board your return flight to Australia.
Day 14 – Arrive back in Perth.
