ITINERARY
DAY 1 – Depart Perth Australia and fly overnight to Johannesburg South Africa (Your Qualified OzAfrica Safari guide will accompany you every step of the way.)
DAY 2 – Continue onto Arusha Tanzania via Dar es Salaam. Meet the local guides and vehicles and overnight in Arusha. D
DAY 3 – Travel to Tarangire National Park. This park has the reputation for large herds of elephant as well as a large variety of antelope and gazelle species. With over 550 bird species recorded there is something for every wildlife enthusiast. Overnight for two nights. DB
DAY 4 – Spend the DAY traversing the park in search of elephant and other species. Tarangire has the greatest concentration of wildlife outside of the Serengeti ecosystem. The visitor can expect to see a variety of predators large and small as well as some of the unique species such as the fringe-eared Oryx and the peculiar long necked gerenuk. DB
DAY 5 – Depart Tarangire and head for Ngorongoro. Arrive at your crater rim accommodation in time for lunch. Once check in procedures is completed set of for an afternoon drive into the crater of this extinct volcano has provided a refuge for an impressive array of fauna and flora. Return in the late afternoon to overnight at your luxury lodge overlooking the park. DB
DAY 6 – Once again set of into the crater this time for the whole day of exploration and game encounters. This unique ecosystem plays host to a variety of wildlife species including the big 5. The most rewarding is sighting the endangered black rhino. Watch as life on the crater floor plays out before your eyes. Have a picnic lunch overlooking one of the only fresh water holes and enjoy the sound of hippo grunting and blowing as the wallow in the shallow waters. Always an experience of contrasts from soda lakes dotted with flamingo, grass plains to mountain forests. DBL
DAY 7 to 10 – Travel westward via Maasai country into the vast Serengeti plains. This is Tanzania’s oldest and most popular national park and a declared world heritage site, truly one of the wild wonders of the world. While here follow the vast herd of over a million wildebeest, 200 000 zebra and 300 000 Thomson gazelle join the migratory search for grazing. Watch the drama play out as predator and prey interact in a setting so vast it can only be experienced by being there. DBL
DAY 11 – Depart the Serengeti and retrace your steps and overnight at Lake Manyara. En route you will have the opportunity to stop at a Maasai Village, and to do some curio shopping. We will also stop at an orphanage that OzAfrica supports with a portion of the income we receive from clients who choose our East African Safari package. Have the opportunity to hand over items such as clothing, mosquito nets and hardware. (No extra cost to you. We like to support local communities in some way in every area we visit.) DBL
DAY 12 – Visit Lake Manyara NP for a last wildlife experience. This area is a microcosm of the Tanzanian wildlife experience and was described by Ernest Hemmingway as “the loveliest I have seen in Africa.” Unique species, such as Kirk’s dic-dic, klipspringers and blue monkeys, as well as the usual big game of Africa. After lunch in Arusha fly to Dar es Salaam and overnight in a luxury hotel located in the central precinct of the city. D
DAY 13 – Catch an early flight back to Johannesburg and onto Australia.
DAY 14 – Arrive back in Perth, Australia
