If you are going to visit Africa only once, this is the tour to do. This is a tour of contrasts that spans diverse geographic locations and ecosystems encompassing spectacular water falls, vast wetlands and some of the driest deserts on the planet. Along the route encounter abundant wildlife and interact with the people of the region. Visits to the Kalahari Bushmen and the Ovahimba will be unforgettable experiences.

ITINERARY

DAY 1 -Depart Perth Australia for the flight to Johannesburg South Africa Arrive in Johannesburg in time to catch the onward flight to Livingstone, Zambia.

DAY 2 – Upon arrival in  Livingston, check into your accommodation before spending an action packed afternoon, including a visit to the Victoria Falls. Walk through the rain forest and experience “The smoke that thunders” as 6000 cubic meters of water per second plummet the 110m into the gorge below.

After the visit to the falls you will have the option to spend time in the local markets or take a helicopter flight over the falls. (Not included in Package)

In the late afternoon, enjoy a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River.

DAY 3  – Bid Livingstone farewell and travel north to the ferry crossing from Zambia to Botswana. Pend the remainder of the afternoon at leisure before ending the day off with dinner on the banks of the Chobe River.

DAY 4  – Another adventure packed day awaits you. Early start as you climb aboard an open game drive vehicle and head off into the Chobe National Park.  This section of the park has one of the highest concentrations of elephant on the continent. If you are lucky you may come across the lion and leopard as they knock off after a long night of hunting. Species of antelope, new to you, are also to be found here. Puku and Red Lechwe. This area of the Chobe has the last remaining groups of Puku.

Back to the lodge for lunch and leisure time until you board one of the game viewing launches for a sunset cruise second to none. Elephant regularly swim between the main land and the island. The island is a photographic smorgasbord of water birds, hippo, buffalo, elephant, crocodile and more.  Head back to the lodge as the sun sets.

DAY 5 – Today you will travel through a section of the Chobe National park to the border crossing into Namibia and the Eastern Caprivi. We will then west along the length of the Caprivi until we cross the Kavango River, at Divundu, here we travel south for a short distance to our overnight stop at Mahangu. Mahangu Safari lodge situated on the Kavango River which forms the upper reaches of the Okavango Delta panhandle.

After breakfast overlooking the river and Buffalo National park you will board board open game drive vehicles and venture into the Mahangu National Park. Here you will encounter animals that you have become familiar with plus a few new species such as Roan and Sable antelope. Return to the lodge for lunch and siesta time.

In the mid afternoon board game viewing boats for a sunset cruise on the river where you are sure to encounter colourful birdlife and a few hippo and  crocodile.

DAY 6 – A long drive today takes you along the border with Angola as you leave the  Caprivi and enter into commercial cattle and game ranch country in the north of Namibia. You will pass many indigenous settlements where you will notice the layout of the villages and the unique architecture of the huts.

A lunch stop will be made in the town of Grootfontein before forging on to the Nye Nye concession, the home of one of the last remaining Bushman.

DAY 7 – Today will be spent with the Bushmen as you join them in their daily routine of hunting, gathering, daily chores and dancing. As you interact with them you will be transported back to a time in our dim passed when priorities were  vastly different from our hustle and bustle lives. This is a time to reflect on your own perspective of life.
DAY 8 – Retrace your steps to Grootfotein, and then continue west through the copper town of Tsumeb. Make a stop at the interesting Lake Otjikoto, were the retreating German army dumped their remaining armaments before being captured by the South African and Allied forces during WW1.

From here travel to Namibia’s Premier National Park, Etosha.

DAY 9 – The day will be spent exploring the eastern reaches of the Etosha NP. Along with the now familiar wildlife, some different species are to be seen here which include the miniature Damara Dik Dik, Oryx, springbok to name a few.

Take a walk through the historic Namatoni fort or sit at one of the viewing platforms and wait for the passing parade.

DAY 10 – Travel from Namatoni westward along the southern shore of the Etosha pan making regular stops at waterholes and watching the procession of game pass your window. The day is dedicated to game viewing and the list of sightings grows with every mile you travel. Elephant, giraffe, gemsbok,  springbok, wildebeest, zebra, the miniature Damara dik dik. If conditions are right you might even encounter one or more of the predators like lion and cheetah.

A lunch stop will be made at Halali camp where you can snack while you sit at a viewing site overlooking a waterhole. Midday is always good for elephant spotting. After lunch continue west to the overnight stop.

DAY 11 – Depart the Etosha area and make a stop at Finger Rock, a monolithic sandstone structure that survived the flood that shaped the landscape.  From here travel south via the foothills of Brandburg Mt until you encounter the Atlantic Ocean. Pay a visit to Cape Cross and the spectacle of thousands of Cape fur seals covering the shoreline of this section of Namibia’s Skeleton coast. From here, continue through the dune and gravel landscape to the town of Swakopmund.

DAY 12 –  Himba excursion
You will be taken to the airport where you will be flown via the Skeleton Coast for a day visit with the Ovahimba tribe in the northern part of Namibia. An unforgettable experience, one where you will interact with the tribe in a traditional village setting.

DAY 13 – Transfer to Windhoek to board you flight to Johannesburg and onward to Perth, Australia

DAY 14 – Arrive Perth, Australia
